Total tooth loss is a more widespread problem than you might think. In fact, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1 in 7 adults over the age of 65 is completely edentulous. While traditional dentures are great for many people, others dislike the instability and added maintenance that comes with them. That’s where implant dentures come in. What Are Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures are full dentures that attach to dental implants instead of resting on your gums. A small number of implants—anywhere from 4 to 8—are placed into your jawbone, where they fuse and act like artificial tooth roots. Your custom denture then snaps or screws onto these posts for a secure fit. With implant dentures in Mercerville, you can enjoy a beautiful, highly functional smile that’s the next best thing to your natural teeth.

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

Fixed, or “non-removable,” implant dentures are anchored to implants and can only be taken out by the dentist. Many patients prefer this type because they feel the closest to having their natural teeth back. Maintenance is also easy—just brush and care for them like normal teeth.

Removable implant dentures, sometimes called “snap-on” dentures, clip onto implants via a bar or ball-and-socket joints. They offer far more stability than traditional dentures while still giving you the flexibility to remove them for cleaning. This option can be a bit more affordable and easier to maintain for some patients.

The Implant Denture Procedure

Your implant denture treatment begins with a consultation with our implant dentist, Dr. Lavery. During your visit, he’ll discuss your medical history and use our CBCT scanner to examine your gums and jawbone.

Once you receive the green light, you’ll be scheduled for implant surgery. Then, a small number of dental implants are placed into your jawbone.

Over the next few months, the implants fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration.

When healing is complete, we attach custom-made dentures that match your gums and facial features. After a quick adjustment period, most patients find their new smile feels stable, comfortable, and natural.

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

If you have good oral and physical health and are frustrated with the slipping and rubbing of traditional prosthetics, implant dentures could be a perfect fit. However, the only way to know for sure if they’re right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Lavery.

As long as there are no immediate issues like gum disease or uncontrolled autoimmune disorders, you could be on your way to a new smile!

Benefits of Combining Dentures & Dental Implants

While implant dentures require more time and a higher up-front cost, they offer life-changing advantages, including:

  • Superior Stability: No slipping, rubbing, or denture adhesive.
  • Improved Chewing Power: Enjoy a wider variety of foods comfortably.
  • Jawbone Preservation: Implants stimulate bone and help prevent facial collapse.
  • Natural Look and Feel: Your smile appears more lifelike and confident.
  • Long-Term Value: With proper care, implants can last for decades.

For many patients, these benefits make implant dentures a smart, long-term investment in comfort, confidence, and oral health.
